The Winner is Apple TV

In-house we have recently tested among others the following streamers:

Along with more Blu-ray players than we can remember and for several good reasons we keep coming back the Apple TV. We look forward to the Western Digital WD Live TV Hub being released this week along with the D-Link Boxee Link and Netgear NTV550 but they serve different purposes than the Apple TV as do Blu-ray players and as such can’t really be compared to them.

First let’s look at most if not all reasons not to buy an Apple TV.

  • You are a complete geek and love to rip Blu-ray movies and or download everything ever posted on the Internet regardless of its codec.
  • You only want to stream Netflix

In the former case you’ll already know what you want and in the later stream Netflix via your Blu-ray player. Now let’s see a few reasons why you should buy an Apple TV.

  • You currently use an Apple product
  • You’ll get a great looking image (Netflix looked better than the other streamers we tested)
  • The form and eco factors are cool
  • Using iTunes you can stream music to your AV receiver TV-lessly
  • It’s under $100
  • Has built-in wireless-N
  • Stream your DVDs by importing them into iTunes

Of course it’s not perfect as we would like to see:

  • Pandora
  • Apps
  • Hulu Plus (if it ever becomes viable)

Our favorite feature is streaming a Genius Mix to our AV receiver. We’re sure you’ll enjoy it just as much!
