On this page we showcase a few movies that you are sure to find entertaining. Typically they are a little off the beaten path but everything about them guarantees a wonderful experience. Not only do they feature great audio and video they wrap it all up into a memorable good time. Be sure to invite friends over to share the fun and help create fond memories.

- Volver -

This month we have Volver booked in our screening room. We are due for a good chick flick and it should fit the bill. Being in Spanish with English subtitles it also counts as an artsy flick! Now if we can get Penelope to show up with the edible faux Oscar presented to her at the Sanremo Festival of Italian Song it just might be the perfect chick night.

- Apocalypto -

Apocalypto

Mel Gibson's latest release Apocalypto isn't for the faint of heart. Nor is it your typical Hollywood release as it plays more like a foreign film especially with the English subtitles. It has a story to tell and does a very good of taking you inside of the Mayan kingdom that makes the violence even harder to live through.

If you enjoyed 300 and Kingdom of Heaven you'll enjoy this film. You'll lose yourself in the cinematography and sound track while getting carried away by the adventure.

- Pirates of the Caribbean: Dead Man's Chest -

Pirates of the Caribbean: Dead Man's Chest

Pirates have sailed to Blu-ray with Disney's release of Pirates of the Caribbean: Curse of the Black Pearl and Pirates of the Caribbean: Dead Man's Chest. Both look and sound stellar so if you're a fan of Captain Jack be sure to book your adventure. We enjoyed the former more although the later looks and sounds a little better. So pick your poison.

The Pirates of the Caribbean series and the recently released also stellar The Complete Matrix Trilogy on HD DVD are so popular that Blu-ray and HD DVD owners have actually been enjoying a movie or two of late! Instead of spending endless hours trying to convince each other that the other side is about to walk the plank.

- A Scanner Darkly -

A Scanner Darkly

If you like Philip K. Dicks' novels you'll enjoy A Scanner Darkly. His other movies include Blade Runner, Total Recall, Minority Report and Paycheck. Now that's a great resume. A Scanner Darkly is animated and at the same time it really isn't. First it was filmed like any other movie and then converted into animation using interpolated Rotoscoping. It took fifty animators fifteen months to trace the film frame by frame.

All of the hard work results in a look that's different from anything you have probably seen. The story itself is bizarre which fits the look perfectly. The two combined make for an entertaining event as even if you aren't enchanted by the story you can't help but appreciate the artsy effect!

- Casino Royale -

    Casino Royale

Casino Royale

Bond is back! Daniel Craig takes over in Casino Royale and returns James Bond back to his roots with a strong gritty performance. Forget the fancy gadgets and special effects instead watch as James becomes 007 with his pistol and fists. Casino Royale returns the franchise to its must see status as James matures into a secret agent well worth tracking during his upcoming missions.

Identity

If you enjoy a scary thriller with its fair share of twists Identity will be well worth checking into. Once at the motel the action comes alive with one guest after another coming to their unfortunate end. The story never gives away too much nor does it cheat along the way, which will keep you interested and guessing right through the clever third act.

- The Prestige -

The Prestige

If you appreciate Christopher Nolan's Batman Begins be sure to catch The Prestige his latest release revolving around the world of magic. As soon at the movie started our screening room traveled back in time and we enjoyed every minute. A great plot and skilled acting will have you discussing the ending long after the movie is over.

- Flyboys -

Flyboys    Flyboys

Flyboys

Flyboys is based on the true story of young Americans who volunteered to become pilots for the French military before the Unites States entered World War I. Lean back and watch as the planes take off on mission after mission and hope you count as many planes returning that left. Just like the brave pilots who can't worry about the danger of their missions and still perform their jobs simply appreciate their courage and cheer on the good side!

- Crank -

    Crank

Crank

Disclaimer: This movie is not recommended. If you enjoy MTV's videos on speed you'll love this movie and there must be a few of you as it sold two million copies in its first week of release. For the rest of us the only reason to spend 87 minutes watching Crank is to be completely impressed with your home theater. The sights and sounds are some of if not the best we have ever seen and there is an under tide of humor that just might let you forgive everything else.
