Sonos Controller

The Sonos wireless music system ($499 ZP100 - $349 ZP80 - $399 controller) allows your music to be played anywhere in your home. Each of the up to 32 ZonePlayers can play its own music or you can link zones together and have each ZonePlayer in the group play the same music. You can even place all of the ZonePlayers in "party mode" and have the entire house rocking.

Sonos will play your ripped CD collection, Internet radio stations, and millions of songs from music services such as Rhapsody. With Rhapsody you won't need a PC or NAS to store your collection just an Internet connection to directly stream your choice of music to the ZonePlayers. The ZP100 includes an amplifier and only requires a set of speakers where the ZP80 requires an external amplifier and speakers, which is ideally suited to use with your existing audio equipment.

The fun really starts when you pick up the controller which features a full-color LCD screen. With the controller you control the entire Sonos system wirelessly including all of the ZonePlayers regardless of where they may be located. In the mood for a little Diana Krall during a dinner party? Simply push a few buttons on the controller and the concert begins. A guest prefers Norah Jones that you haven't even heard of. No problem! Just pass them the controller and let them pick their favorite Norah Jones tracks via Rhapsody.

Extended Use Update: We have been using Sonos for over a year and it keeps getting better and better. During that time Sonos has released two software updates with a variety of new features including the ability to play most DRM music. The hardware has been rock solid and its ease of use makes listening to music a daily treat. With a 30-day money back guarantee if purchased directly from Sonos we see absolutely no reason not to experience it for yourself!

News Flash 05/23/07: Sonos introduces a new bundle for $999 that includes a controller, ZP80 and ZP100, which offers a savings of $248 over buying the components separately. At the same time they have introduced software version 2.2 that includes support for Pandora at $36 per year. Also Internet reliability has been improved with auto restart a much-desired addition!
