What's less than a foot deep and 58 inches
diagonal? One hint it's not a plasma. It's JVC new
HD-58S998 ($3,299)
DILA 1080p set. A 65 inch version at 14.5 inches deep is also
available. Features include a contrast ratio greater than 10,000:1, ATSC
QAM tuner, 2 HDMI and 2 component inputs along with built-in speakers
with subwoofer. Since both models are wall mountable be sure to give
them an audition before picking up your next large screen plasma.

Mitsubishi WD-73831 -

Rating

We have always liked Mitsubishi's large screen
TVs and the WD-73831 ($5,499) looks to be carrying on the tradition. At
73 inches it's about as big as you are going to get outside of front
projection. If you want a smaller model they offer the
WD-65831 ($3,999) and the
WD-57831 ($3,499) at 65 inches and 58
inches respectively.
All three are from the Diamond series and
Mitsubishi also offers several other series and each series drops a few
features along with the price. Be sure to compare the different series
to see which best suits your needs as often you can find what you are
looking for without going all the way to the top.
The DLP WD-73831 features true 1080p processing,
a 180-watt lamp for a bright image, CableCard support with 2 HDMI and 3
component inputs. Although overall there are seventy-three reasons why
you will probably be interested in his model and it's nice to know that
its performance stands up to it's screen size.

Our Pick of the Page

Samsung has introduced the first LED DLP based
sets and they have a winner on their hands. We took a look at the
HL-T5687S ($2799) and were instantly impressed with its great
contrast. With a contrast ratio of 10,000:1 the image has tremendous
depth far beyond most of its competitors. With its long lasting LED
engine, almost instant on image, and slick styling we like everything
about these new sets.
If you are looking for a 61 inch TV Samsung offers
the
HL-T6187S ($3,199). They also offer the
HL-T5689S ($2,999) and the
HL-T6189S ($3,199) which offer a few
additional geeky features including Picture-in-Picture, Bluetooth
(headphones), and upgraded HDMI (1.3) and USB inputs (2.0).

Sony KDS-55A2020 -

The
KDS-55A2020 ($2,499) and
KDS-60A2020 ($2,899) are identical to
last year's models except for the new black cabinets and much lower
prices. Both models feature Sony's SXRD 1920 x 1080 panels with 2.5ms
response time, two HDMI and three component inputs and enough display
adjustments to keep you tweaking for months. With full 1080p resolution,
impressive black level, 10,000:1 contrast ratio (Iris assisted) and
better looking black cabinets the new models are well worth
considering.
