- How Do We Come Up With Our Ratings? -

For starters we aren't Consumer Reports, any of those well-respected magazines or online sites with a staff of reviewers. Rather we are home audio and video enthusiasts who live with most of the products on a daily basis. A better understanding of who are can be found here.

Since we are different our approach is different. Instead of reading a press release or looking at a product for a short period of time and publishing a review we take many factors into account. The ratings are based on a unique formula that not only judges the product but also takes into effect the following criteria.

  • How it compares to its competitors

Even more important than how something performs is how it performs compared to the products it competes with.

  • The rating’s life expectancy

Based on how long the product should maintain the rating factoring the maturity level of its category and the expected availability of next generation models.

  • Bang for the buck

Its cost compared to its competitors as well as an overall consideration on how pricing may evolve in the near future.

  • Life changing factor

This takes into account the likeliness of the product to enhance your life. Sort of a return on investment based on the amount of the time you will spend using this product.

  • Usability

How enjoyable the product is to use on a daily basis.

  • Buy now

Home audio and video enthusiasts by nature receive enjoyment from owning and using their equipment and occasionally a fantastic product will become available. Whether it’s a MP3 player that offers all the features you have been looking for or the latest digital front projector that won’t become obsolete before it’s installed some products are just too good to pass on.

- Our Reporting Philosophy -

In summary our ratings are influenced by how well the product performs, the level of enjoyment you should receive from it on an daily basis and finally how gracefully it will grow old. Based on comparisons to its direct competitors along with the entire audio and video field since we only have so much free time and money regardless of who we are.

Most products on the site will have its rating summarized based on the following criteria.

      ●●●●  Avoid at all costs
●●●  Unless you known some thing we don't pass on this item
●●●●  Average performer worth purchasing if you are in the market
●●●●  Top performer worth upgrading for
      ●●●●  A certified winner

Note: Our ratings should only be used as a reference for your own knowledge.
